Other Types of Accommodations

Sign language interpreting, transcribing, and FM systems are the accommodations most widely used by d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Captioning and Academic Technology: Captioning of media content is done through Academic Technology Services in IT Solutions. Visit the Captioning and Academic Technology page to learn more.

FM systems are assistive listening devices checked out on availability to students with limitations related to hearing loss or central auditory processing disorder. This device includes a small microphone for the instructor and a personal earpiece receiver for the student.

Transcribing communication access real-time translation (CART) is a transcription service similar to captioning, as it provides those who are deaf and hard of hearing access to the spoken word. It is helpful for those who do not use interpreters or when written English is a more reasonable accommodation for a particular setting.

Notetaking services are another accommodation offered to students with a need. Learn more on the Notetaking Services page.
