Finals Week
(updated Fall 2025)
Due to the sheer volume of testing requests and intensity of security, accommodated testing during Finals Week is more structured.
It is common for Accessibility Resources to proctor as many as 150 exams during Finals Week. Therefore, the following information is important for students taking tests in Accessibility Resources to remember.
At the bottom of the page are answers to common questions we have received.
Scheduling Final Exams
Reminder: Submitting a testing request through MavAccess is only for scheduling a test with Accessibility Resources.
See More Info Collapse- While you can use the testing center for accommodations like extended time, you are not required to do so.
- You may not need to schedule with Accessibility Resources if:
- Your test is take-home, and you have a preferred quiet space.
- The test is in a lab, and you’re attending an AR session set up by your instructor.
- Your professor is proctoring the test outside AR, and it meets your accommodation plan.
- You choose to take the test in class with your peers without accommodations.
Important Rules:
- Schedule tests in MavAccess at least one week before Finals. This rule is strictly enforced.
- Accessibility Resources can accommodate tests ending as late as 7:00 p.m. during Finals Week.
- Forgot your test time? Log in to MavAccess and click Accommodated Testing in the left menu to check your schedule.
Be On Time
Arrive on time for your scheduled test. Due to the high volume of students, we cannot extend your testing time. Think of this like a classroom final: would your professor allow you to walk in late?
More Info Collapse-
If space and test format allow, you may start up to 10 minutes early.
-
If you are more than 30 minutes late, your appointment will be marked as a no-show, and you will need to work with your instructor on the next steps.
-
Running late due to an emergency (flat tire, medical issue, etc.)? Contact the Accommodated Testing team immediately:
-
- Phone: 507-389-2825
- Email: examaccess@mnsu.edu

Before you Start:

Be on time.
-
Bring your MavCard or a photo ID.

-
Place all items not allowed for the test in a storage cubby, unless listed in your accommodation plan. This includes:

-
Empty pockets

-
If a calculator is allowed, clear its memory completely.

For Online Exams
- Log in to D2L and have the test start page open before your scheduled time. Do not start the test.
- Connect to eduroam Wi-Fi instead of MavNet—instructions available here: Connecting to eduroam.
- If using LockDown Browser, you must show staff that you submitted the test before leaving.
Items Provided by Accessibility Resources
The following are items we have for students to use.
What We Have Collapse- Laptops for Online Exams
- Earplugs
- Bottles of water
- Fidgets
- Tissues
- Extra pencils
- Timer
- Calculators (limited quantity)
- Construction-grade over-the-ear earmuffs. We only have 5 pairs, and they are first-come, first-served.
Note: scratch paper will not be provided unless the instructor has specified it is allowed.
Testing Rules and Academic Honesty
All relevant policies, procedures, and rules still apply for tests in Accessibility Resources, especially Academic Honesty.
Learn the Rules Collapse- Standard testing rules and procedures apply. Those can be found here: Student Alternative Testing Agreement.
- All desks in the Accessibility Resources testing space are monitored and recorded using CCTV.
- There are other configurations applied to double-check monitoring that are not public to preserve integrity.
- Any attempts to circumvent recording or academic honesty will be immediately reported to the instructor and you will be subject to standard conduct violation procedures.
- While recordings of the said act will be saved for possible evidence for the conduct process, they are saved offline to prevent privacy issues.
Due to the sheer volume of tests happening, we have to specify which desks, spaces, rooms, etc. students will be placed in. Your request has been received, but it will say Approved when a specific spot has been assigned.
MavAccess won't let me schedule a Final, or the length of time is not what the class is getting.
? CollapseThis is often an issue related to the Test Proctoring Agreement the instructor completed earlier in the semester. Go ahead and schedule the exam with the correct start time, and I will contact the instructor to confirm the true length of time.
Please do not ask for a Private Room if it is not on your accommodation plan. Private Room accommodations are reserved for students who have Private Room explicitly stated on their accommodation plans. If your accommodation plan does not list Private Room, and the rooms are not reserved for someone who does, you may be placed in the room. Placements for private spaces have been determined well in advance.
What if my instructor offers an alternative to taking an exam in Accessibility Resources?
? CollapseSome professors are holding AR-registered-students-only sessions of lab practicals, or they may offer students to take exams privately during their office hours, or they may require certain certified proctors that we cannot provide, for example. If the professor’s request or idea works for you and your accommodation plan, you are certainly welcome to take them up on their offer. If it does not provide your minimum requirements for accommodation, let them and us know so we can make sure you’re in the right place on test day.
