CETL provides a variety of faculty development programs to help you design your courses, improve student engagement, create better student learning outcomes, and enhance your teaching career.
Long Professional Development Courses are courses that meet monthly throughout the academic year.
Academic Year 2023-2024 Offerings
New Faculty Onboarding Academy
Facilitated by Dr. Brooke Burk
Over the course of the academic year, new faculty will attend seven one-hour workshops to engage in professional development that enhances their teaching and learning practices and advance racial equity and social justice in teaching and learning spaces.

Second Year Faculty Cohort
Facilitated by Dr. Beth Beschorner
Support for fixed term and probationary faculty in their second year at the University. The group will meet monthly to discuss the increasing responsibilities of academic advising, scholarship, and research and reflect upon challenges and lessons learned during their first year at the University.

Third-Fifth Year Faculty Cohort
Facilitated by Dr. Dan Moen
Support for fixed-term and probationary faculty in their third through fifth year at the University will be provided to support continuous professional development. The group will meet monthly through Spring Semester to discuss the increasing responsibilities of academic advising, scholarship, and research and reflect upon challenges, and working toward tenure and promotion.

Racial Equity Advocates
Facilitated by Dr. Timothy Berry and Dr. Beth Beschorner
(2023-2024 will be a continuation for only those who have been active participants in the past)
Racial Equity Advocates participate in professional development, self-reflection, and ongoing discussion to advance racial equity in their own practice as a member of the MSU, Mankato community.
Racial Equity Advocates have completed:
- The Courageous Conversations about Race Protocol
- Attend monthly meetings with other Racial Equity Advocates
- Apply racial equity lens to all aspects of their work in order to advance racial equity
- Consult monthly with their College Dean, Department Chair, and colleagues to support colleagues in advancing Equity 2030

Integrating Reflective Practicies to Enhance Student Learning and Engagement
Facilitated by Dr. Leah White and Dr. Allison Land
Course will introduce participants to the use of reflective assignments as an effective tool to support student learning. Participants will learn about various approaches to reflective assignments, design a reflective assignment for a course, implement the assignment and assess the effectiveness of the experience. The course will involve collaborative work time, peer review, and discussion.
