Admission Requirements

Minnesota State Mankato is a university where you can stand out. You will find comprehensive support services, a wide variety of majors to explore, and opportunities to excel in and out of the classroom. You will only need to be admitted once as a PSEO student!

Traditional PSEO Admission Requirements

Traditional PSEO is available for students entering their 11th or 12th grade year. Minnesota State Mankato offers guaranteed admission if you meet one of the following requirements:

If you're interested in starting PSEO as a high school senior you must meet ONE of the following:

  • Rank in the top 50% of your high school class OR;
  • You have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) OR;
  • You achieve a 21 of higher composite score on the ACT exam (with cumulative GPA of 2.7)

If you're interested in starting PSEO as a high school junior you must meet ONE of the following:

  • Rank in the top 33% of your high school class OR;
  • You have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) OR;
  • You achieve a 24 or higher composite score on the ACT exam (with cumulative GPA of 2.7)

Concurrent enrollment admission requirements

Concurrent enrollment is available for students in 9th - 12th grade, though the vast majority of enrolled students are in 11th or 12th grade.

If you would like to register for concurrent enrollment courses starting your 11th or 12th grade years, you'll need to meet the same requirements listed above.

REQUIREMENTS FOR 9TH AND 10TH GRADERS

9th and 10th grade students are eligible for concurrent enrollment courses but must meet the following requirements:

  • Approval from the university AND
  • Rank in the top 10% of nationally normed test OR
  • Rank in the top 10% of graduating class OR
  • Have a favorable recommendation from a school official

Prior to applying for concurrent enrollment 9th and 10th grade students should collaborate with their high school counselor and family to consider the sequence of courses. If there is a course you are interested in enrolling in as early as 9th grade, what courses will you take after that course to help ensure you continue to challenge yourself academically and develop more depth and breadth in that content?

COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW PROCESS - AVAILABLE ONLY FOR CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT STUDENTS

We understand that there is a lot going on in your life, a lot of which is outside of your control. These events, or situations, often take attention away from academics. If you are interested in enrolling in concurrent enrollment and don't meet the automatic admission requirements, you'll have an opportunity to provide supplemental information. This information is designed to provide more context and understanding as to what challenges you may have faced in school or in your personal life.

If you qualify for this, more information will be emailed to you after you submit your application to campus.

PSEO APPLICATION PROCESS AND CHECKLIST

Ready to apply?

The application is the first step to take once you've decided to enroll in either PSEO or concurrent enrollment courses. You need to be admitted to campus before you can register for courses.

Oftentimes, your high school counselor will help you with the process. Make sure to ask questions when you have them.

some common terms

First, lets start with some common terms that you'll hear through the process.

STARID: The first thing you'll do is create a StarID. If you have a StarID with another MinnState institution, you can use that one. If you don't remember your StarID and/or password, don't create a new one, you'll run into course registration issues. Your StarID is your login/username for MinnState systems. You'll use it to check your application status, register for courses, and login to MavMAIL (your university issued email account).

APPLICATION: Prior to being able to enroll in courses, you'll need to be admitted to campus, just like any other student that wants to take courses through Minnesota State Mankato. When we have a complete application our application processor will review your application, which will require an updated high school transcript. It normally takes 10-14 business days to review a complete application, though this timeline can change depending on the time of year and number of applications.

COURSE REGISTRATION: This is the step you take to actually register for the university course. Without taking this step you will not receive university credit. Being listed on your high school roster is not the same as registering for the course through the university.

These are three of the more common terms that students, families, and school officials have questions about. There will be more questions, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the steps or process. We'd love to be able to help.
