Watermark Tenure and Promotion Workflow Steps

Watermark Tenure and Promotion Workflow Process step are provided to support you in the submission process. The due dates for each step are included to guide your planning.

Faculty members who plan to pursue tenure and/or promotion must be enrolled in the Watermark Faculty Success Workflow. To enroll, complete the brief form below, indicating your intent to apply.

Tenure and Promotion Workflow Enrollment

Once the form has been submitted, faculty members will be enrolled in the workflow within Watermark Faculty Success, and receive an email from Watermark to confirm enrollment. The college dean will be notified of your enrollment in the Tenure and Promotion workflow.

Faculty members pursuing tenure and/or promotion must complete the Tenure and Promotion Application and submit the required application materials. These materials are required for both promotion and tenure, regardless of whether you are applying for one or both review processes. Once submitted, your materials will be routed through the workflow for review and evaluation.

To complete this form, faculty members will need to provide background information about their service at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and at other institutions (if applicable), and their educational background.  Faculty also upload the required application materials, which include:

  • Up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Tenure and Promotion Narrative
  • Criteria Documentation
  • Previous Professional Development Plans (PDP) and Professional Development Reports (PDR), including department and dean comments

Optional materials to include:

  • any additional supporting documentation relevant to the application.

All submitted documents need to be uploaded in PDF format. Watermark does not automatically save your work. If you wish to save a draft and return at another time, select "Save" in the action menu.

To submit this step to your department colleagues for their review, select "Submit to Personnel Committee & Faculty Recommendation" from the action menu.

If a faculty member wishes to withdraw their application, they can select "Withdraw Application" on the action menu.

 

In this step, department faculty members are provided an opportunity to review the candidate's application materials. Faculty members within the candidate's department and/or program may choose to submit an optional letter in response to the application. Submission of a letter is not required.

To upload a letter of support, department faculty members can do so in the file upload dialog box. Letters should be formatted as a PDF document.

To submit this step, faculty members should select "Publish to Committee" to share the letter for inclusion in the candidate's materials.

Personnel Committee Chairs need to complete the Tenure and Promotion: Department Statement Formg form, complete the faculty's response, and upload the department's personnel committee recommendation letter into Watermark Workflow.  The faculty member assigned as the department's personnel chair is the only department member who can advance the workflow to the department chair.

Department faculty members are invited to review the candidate's application materials during this step of the tenure and promotion process. Once they have reviewed the materials, the faculty member designated as the personnel chair must complete the department statement form and collect signatures from all faculty members participating in the department's recommendation. Once all required signatures have been obtained, upload the completed form using the file upload dialog box.

If any department faculty upload individual letters of support in response to the candidate's tenure and promotion materials, personnel chairs will need to download the submitted letters and upload them via the file upload dialog box included as part of this step to ensure their inclusion in the materials.

Personnel Committee Chairs must upload the committee's recommendation letter addressing the faculty members dossier in relation to the five evaluation criteria:

  1. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively and/or perform effectively in other current assignments.
  2. Scholarly or creative achievement or research.
  3. Evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  4. Contribution to student growth and development.
  5. Service to the university and community.

Once completed, upload the recommendation as a PDF using the file upload dialog box.

Department Chairs may submit on the faculty member's achievements in relation to the five evaluative criteria:

  1. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively and/or perform effectively in other current assignments.
  2. Scholarly or creative achievement or research.
  3. Evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  4. Contribution to student growth and development.
  5. Service to the university and community.

Submission of a letter is not required. If you chose to provide a letter, upload the document as a PDF in the file upload dialog box, and submit the step to the candidate for their review.

Faculty members have the opportunity to respond to recommendations provided by their department and/or program as part of the tenure and promotion review process. Submission of a response is optional and is not required for your application to continue.

If a faculty member wishes to provide a response to their department, they should upload a PDF document of their response in the file dialog box.

If a faculty member does not wish to provide a response to their department/program, they can select "Submit to Dean's Recommendation" to advance the workflow to their Dean's Office without uploading a response.
