Transfer Students WITH U.S. Credits
To ensure a smooth and productive transfer to Minnesota State Mankato, especially in highly competitive programs, it is in your best interest to understand early on how your coursework aligns with the University's requirements and policies, and what a potential plan of study could look like. Use this page as a guide to connecting with your academic advisor BEFORE your arrival at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Application Deadlines for Transfer WITH U.S. Credits
Fall Semester (August) Start: August 10
Spring Semester (January) Start: December 20
Step 1: Apply and Have Your Official Transcript Sent
- Apply to the university and upload necessary documents. After you complete the applcations, upload these documents to the dashboard.
- Request your U.S. transcripts to be sent to MSU: Official transcripts from from U.S. institutions can be sent electronically to intladmt@mnsu.edu or mailed directly to:

If you have fewer than 24 completed credits, you will also need to provide high school transcripts. Your high school transcript does not need to be official, but it does need to contain grades 9-12 and your graduation date. You will need to contact your high school if you do not have a copy of your final high school transcript.
Please note that receiving transcripts from other universities can take a few weeks when sent via mail. If you have additional coursework that you do not provide during the admission process, you can submit it upon arrival at the university to complete the transfer process.
Please note:
- You will receive your transfer credit evaluation automatically from the Minnesota State Mankato Registrar within 10-14 business days of your acceptance.
- You will receive the results of the evaluation in the email you used on your application.
- Any official transcripts included in your application will automatically be evaluated. If you have additional coursework that you did not provide documentation for during the admission process, you can submit them upon arrival at the University to complete the transfer process.
- Minnesota State Mankato faculty members and departments make the final decision about whether courses you have taken elsewhere will transfer credits to Minnesota State Mankato.
Step 2: Upon Admittance, Activate Your StarID and Set Up Your MavMail
Step 3: Begin The Process of Transferring Your SEVIS Record and I-20
- Talk to your current institution’s DSO about transferring your SEVIS record. You will need to provide them with your MSU-Mankato admission letter. Be sure the SEVIS transfer date is after your current classes end. If you are currently in CPT or OPT, you will want the date to be after it ends.
- Locate the International Portal invitation in your MavMAIL. Submit required financial documents to request your I-20. Submit a Transfer In request.
Step 4: Attend Orientation and Register For Classes
Choose your orientation route. Orientation is required and costs $200. During the orientation process, you will meet with an academic advisor and get registered for classes. By choosing Option A, you will be able to register for your classes sooner. Please bring any transcripts you have not yet provided. Mandatory health insurance registration also happens during orientation.
- Option A: Online AND In-Person Orientation
This option enables students to enroll in classes prior to arriving on campus. You will attend an online orientation ($80) then join us for in-person orientation (discounted to $120 for those who have attended online orientation) the week prior to classes to get acquainted with the university. The in-person component is required. - Option B: In-Person Orientation Only
With this option, orientation and course registration will happen the week prior to classes starting. Orientation is required and costs $200.
