The Annual Giving Engagement Ambassadors are here to foster alumni and community engagement, build meaningful connections, and serve as advocates for the Maverick community. Engagement Ambassadors foster relationships through their campus-based outreach. Whether it is through a phone call, a note, or an email the Engagement Ambassador team is here to connect you to campus in meaningful ways.

I am an international student from Kathmandu, Nepal. I love reading books and watching a ton of movies. Something interesting about me is that I lived in North Korea for about 4 years when I was younger because of my father’s work with the United Nations. 

why i am passionATE about minnesota state mankato:

This University has been a home away from home to be because of the people that I have met here and the relationships I have maintained. Being an inclusive school, I have been involved in so many communities and events that make me feel less homesick and much more involved. One thing that will have an everlasting impact on me are the people I have met in the school...people that I will be connected to for my entire life.

ABOUT ME:

I am legally from Belgium but originally from Cameroon. I enjoy reading, medium extreme activities such as ziplining, hiking, swimming and being outside, travelling, and spending time with other people. I love cooking when I have the time and energy along with hosting people in my home. I have been to 18 different countries. One for each year I’ve been alive, and I plan on making that a tradition until I die. (so 47 by the time I turn 47) I Grew up in Iran where I learned to speak a bit of German and Persian. Graduated high school at 14.

Minnesota State Mankato is like a family that grows on you. There are so many resources at such affordable rates. The University offers many events and activities in a way that feels like  a D1 school with the intimacy of a D2 population.

ABOUT ME:

I come from a very small island named Aruba. My favorite hobbies are going to the gym, hanging out with family and friends, and studying. Something interesting about me is that I can speak four languages. These are Papiamento (Native language), Dutch, English, and Spanish. An interesting thing about my native language is that you cannot find it on Google Translate, which is cool.

I am passionate about Minnesota State Mankato because of its diversity. Since I am an international student, I do not have any family members in America. Choosing a college that would help me feel welcome was very important, and this University made that possible.

Gracie is a freshman majoring in Psychology with an undecided minor. Gracie is a cat-loving ambassador who is very passionate about Minnesota State Mankato. ABOUT ME:

I am from Roseville, Minnesota which is about 10 minutes north east of St.Paul. I grew up playing all types of sports from lacrosse, to dance, to basketball, and many more. This is my first time moving, I have gone to Roseville Area Schools up until graduation, and have known my best friends since kindergarten! I have an ESA named Stevie.  She is a cat who is going to be 2 in December. She’s a tuxedo kitty who is only about 7 pounds, and is the sweetest and silliest little girl ever.

WHY I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO:

I am passionate about Minnesota State Mankato because my grandfather went here when he was in college. I love the history, and the beauty of this campus and how kind people are here.  I love that Mankato offers diverse courses, so there is truly something for everyone here!

IMPACT OF DONORS:

Donations, no matter the size, offer immense impacts on the daily lives of those attending the University. Whether it is going to scholarships to help those who can’t afford it on their own, or to the hockey team so they can remain our D1 team. I am in Letters of Love here on campus, which is a nonprofit organization where we make cards for children battling cancer and other serious illnesses. I am also hoping to play on the rec lacrosse team here! I am also an unofficial member of many clubs as I plan to be very involved.

I am from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. My hobbies are learning new language, swimming and board games. Something interesting about me: I'm all about loving nature, especially during fall when the leaves turn beautiful colors. Swimming is my go-to hobby—it's like a peaceful dip into pure relaxation. But above all, my family holds the biggest place in my heart, bringing me endless joy and love. I also love diving into different languages and cultures—it's like discovering new worlds. And when it comes to music, oldies Ethiopian music is where I find my groove, connecting me to life's beat. It's a beautiful mix of nature, family, languages, and tunes that make my story.

As a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, I have had the privilege of being part of a community that values academic excellence and service. Serving as a Community Advisor in McElroy, I've actively contributed to fostering a supportive living environment for fellow students. In my role as the IT Coordinator for NSLS, a registered student organization, I have been able to combine my interest in technology with my dedication to leadership and personal development. Something I’m passionate about at this Univeristy is its international community and everyone who works here. WHY I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO:

I am very keen and passionate about conducting research here. I love the notion that I can create something big today that was not there yesterday. Research is the key to solving most of our worldly problems and I love being a part of that.

Most students are always working under a point of pressure not only for academic but also for financial reasons. When donors come in to give financial support, it helps lift a huge financial and mental burden, hence bringing students a step closer to academic success.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:

I try to be intentional with my free time with the community. As a result, I volunteer over the summer at hospitals. It has been an incredible experience for me. It has helped me become more knowledgeable about the hospital system. I have adadpted to talking with patients and their families while waiting. It is very rewarding.

I am from Senegal, West Africa. I love cooking and trying different recipes. I also enjoy watching old African movies. It gives me a deep sense of belonging to a beautiful culture and broaden my knowledge about African countries and their history. My favorite producer is Ousmane Sembène who is from Senegal.

Something interesting about me is that I speak 3 languages: Wolof, French, and English. I also have a podcast channel.

WHY I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO:

I enjoy the diversity in the student body and faculty at Minnesota State Mankato. I lived in Minneapolis for 2 years and met very few people from West Africa. However, I can walk the hallways on this campus and hear many individuals speak my native language. It is quite comforting and pleasant. It reminds me of my family and friends back home and the reasons why I am here.

IMPACT OF DONORS:

Donors are the glue that holds this University together. Among many other things, maintaining a college and making sure students and faculty have the best working and learning environment is costly. Our University's needs can only be reached if alumni decide to give back to it. My academic journey here exists because of the Maverick Scholarship for international students. I am forever thankful to individuals who made this scholarship possible.

I was recently designated as the spokesperson for the International Student Association. I am member of the African Student Association and the Muslim Student Association . I am also an active member of the Senegalese Association of Minnesota.

ABOUT ME:

I am from Ethiopia. My hobby is journaling. I also really enjoy spending time with my family. It's something that has always been important to me. Whether it's a big family gathering, or just a quiet evening at home, the moments spent together are truly special. We share laughter, stories, and create lasting memories that I cherish.

As for journaling, it's a personal practice I've developed over the years. Writing in my journal allows me to express my thoughts and feelings in a way that's both cathartic and introspective. It's a space where I can be completely honest with myself and reflect on my experiences. Some days, I use it to jot down gratitude lists, while other times, it's a place for creative writing and exploration of ideas. It's a habit that helps me gain clarity and perspective in my life.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:

I try to be intentional with my free time with the community. As a result, I volunteer over the summer at hospitals. It has been an incredible experience for me. It has helped me become more knowledgeable about the hospital system. I have adadpted to talking with patients and their families while waiting. It is very rewarding.

I am a part of the Students Events Team here on campus. It is a student-led organization responsible for putting up events on campus. We are responsible for the Halloween Haunted Takeover, Trivia Night, Pool Party, Lip Sync, and more.
