How to Register for Classes

Using the Registrar's Class Schedule Website

The Class Schedule site, titled Search for Minnesota State Mankato Courses, provides full information about each course available for registration in upcoming semesters. New course offerings in future semesters are added as the departments provide information to the Registrar.

Do you know exactly which course you want?

Yes

If you know the 6-digit Course ID#, that’s all you need to enter in the Course ID# box provided. Press the Return key for complete course information. Be sure to read the Notes at the end of the course information.

If you know the 3-digit course number in a particular department, we recommend that you enter three pieces of information:

  • Choose the Semester from the pull-down list.
  • Select the Department from the alphabetical pull-down list.
  • Type the 3-digit course number in the small Course # box.

Now choose the Open Sections Only or All Sections button. (The Return key will also generate a list of All Sections.)

Important:

When you locate your course, be sure to write down the 6-digit Course ID# (the first item in the course information), which is semester-specific and is essential for registration.

Notes:

Be sure to read any additional information in the Notes that may be provided by the department at the end of the course information. This information is often listed ONLY in the Notes and may include permission requirements, additional course and/or materials cost, etc.

No

If you are browsing University Extended Education courses, use these tips to construct your search:

  • Semester: Select the term you want to register for.
  • Campus: Choose from these options (recommended choices for University Extended Education courses are highlighted here):
    • On & Off Campus
    • On Campus Only
    • Off Campus Only
    • Continuing Education
    • Online and ITV courses

You can now request a course list at any point by choosing the Open Sections Only or All Sections button. You can also Reset the screen and make all new choices. Or further limit your search as follows:

  • Choose a specific College from the pull-down list to browse all courses offered by that college in the format you’ve chosen (e.g., Off Campus Only).
  • Or select a specific Department from the alphabetical pull-down list.
    • Course Level: If you’ve chosen a department, you may want to use this option to further limit your search:
      • 100-200 level
      • 300-400 level
      • Graduate level
    • Course #: In most cases, you will want to select a Department or at least a College when entering a 3-digit Course #, although this is not required by the software (e.g., the software will generate a list of the “101” courses in all departments in the University if you do not specify a Department or College).
    • Request a list of Open Sections Only or All Sections.
