J-1 Exchange Student Funding Requirements

To receive your Form DS-2019, U.S. federal regulations require you to show proof of sufficient funding to cover all tuition, fees, and living expenses for your full exchange period.

Acceptable Funding Sources:

  • Home university or institutional scholarships/waivers

  • Government sponsorships or third-party grants

  • Personal or family funds (subject to program agreement guidelines)

Tuition and Estimated Living Expenses for J-1 Exchange Students*

Exchange students pay standard tuition and fees directly to their home institution and receive a tuition waiver for their coursework at MSU. All expenses are estimates.
