Registration Advising FAQs
Here are some questions that students frequently ask about registration at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Who is my advisor?
Most first-year students are assigned to work with the advising team of the college of their major. For others, they have a faculty member of their major assigned as their academic advisor.
How to Find Your Advisor Hide TutorialThere are two simple ways to find your academic advisor/advising team.
On E-services:
- Log into E-services
- Click Courses & Registration on the left-side bar
- Click View/Modify Schedule
- Your advisor/advising team can be found at the top of the page, above your schedule
On MavConnect:
- Log into MavConnect
- Your advisor/advising team should be listed under Your Connections.
- Note: if you have two or more majors, you may see one or all of your advisors listed.

Your advisor works alongside you as you navigate your academic journey at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
How Your Advisor Can Help Hide InformationAcademic advisors and advising teams are ready to assist in a variety of ways, including:
- Major decisions
- Degree planning
- Registration
- Navigating registration holds
- Providing access codes, if your major requires one
- General social and success coaching
Not sure how to do something? When in doubt, seek your advisor/advising team out!
How do I meet with my advisor?
It depends. Many faculty advisors prefer to connect with students directly via email. For the college advising teams, MavConnect is the easiest way to connect.
How to schedule via MavConnect Hide TutorialHow to schedule with your college advising team:
- Log into MavConnect
- Under Your Services, you should see a tile with your advising team; click it
- This should show a list of advisors in your team
- Click SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT on the left side
- If there is no button, contact the team via the information under Contact
- Follow the prompts to select your reason for meeting, choose a day/time, select in-person/online, and in the comment box give a brief description of why you want to meet
- Make note of the Meeting Instructions
- Click confirm and wait for the email confirmation from MavConnect
- Be sure to attend when you are scheduled!
