Come chat with Mrs. Deanna Stands, a dual citizen of the Yankton Sioux Tribe and the United States of America. She was educated K-12 at Wagner Community School in South Dakota before receiving her B.S. in Elementary Education with a minor in American Indian Studies from the University of Minnesota. Mrs. Stands taught at Marty Indian School and Wagner Community School for a combined thirty-seven years, mostly in the primary grades. As a re-activated retiree, she taught the last seven years the Beginning and Intermediate Dakota Language classes at the high school level, ensuring that those students would receive credit for the South Dakota world language requirement. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mrs. Stands opted to not renew her teaching contract. She is a curriculum member for the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies organization, Martin, SD; a member of the Oak Lake Writers Society; and has presented over the years at the Mahkato Education Day. She also serves on the Yankton Sioux Tribe election board and YST treaty steering committee. Join the Zoom meeting here: https://minnstate.zoom.us/j/91631940827 Passcode: AIAevents
