Advice for LC Students: I highly recommend finding your community—MNSU offers tons of clubs and groups that make the college experience so much more fun and fulfilling. Being part of a group that shares your interests can truly change the way you navigate school.Smartest thing you ever did/Best decision you ever made: The smartest decision I ever made was choosing the transfer route. It allowed me to save a significant amount of money while also giving me the time and flexibility to truly explore my interests and discover the degree I was meant to pursue. I’ve seen many friends struggle—some dropping out or spending a lot of money on classes they later realized weren’t right for them.
Favorite thing to do outside school/work: Outside of work and school, my absolute favorite thing to do is simply *be* outside. Whether it’s playing yard games, going for a walk, hiking, swimming, or playing tennis, I love anything that lets me soak up the fresh air.
One unique thing about you: Though I’ve spent the majority of my life here in Minnesota, I wasn’t born here—I was born in Ireland, and my entire family still lives across the sea. This has given me a uniquely multicultural outlook on life. There are words and phrases that are second nature to people here, things I’ve learned in school, that my parents have never heard before.
Favorite thing about MSU: There are so many things I love about MSU, but two stand out the most. First, the Bullpen—the ultimate student hangout spot on campus. I didn’t fully appreciate it until recently, but now I see just how much fun it can be. Most of the activities there are free, making it a great place to relax and connect with friends without worrying about costs.
Campus Involvement: Getting involved on campus is one of the best things you can do as a student. There are so many opportunities—whether it's religious groups, sports teams, gaming clubs, board games, or countless others. I know joining a new group can feel intimidating at first, but I *really* encourage you to push through any nerves and give it a try. You never know—you might just meet lifelong friends in the process.
Favorite thing to do in Mankato: One of my favorite things about Mankato is the incredible trails. The area is beautifully wooded, offering so many scenic paths to explore-perfect for unwinding, staying active, or simply taking in nature. I also really appreciate the local restaurants. Not only are many of them highly affordable, but the kindness of the staff makes every night out even more enjoyable. Good food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere-what more could you ask for?
Anything else we should know about you/Fun Facts: I’m a total music junkie—I love headphones, and I’m always up for a conversation about music. Lately, I’ve been trying to expand my taste, so if you’ve got a song recommendation, send it my way! I’ll listen and let you know what I think.
