Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Performing Arts News Release

MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Performing Arts continues the 2025-2026 Theatre and Dance season with “LIZZIE: The Musical” in the Andreas Theatre at the Early Center for the Performing Arts.

It’s bold. It’s bloody. It’s badass. “LIZZIE: The Musical” takes the legend of Lizzie Borden and cranks up the volume in this ferocious rock musical that explodes with unapologetic female power. Based on the true, and still unsolved, story of the 1892 axe murders that shocked the nation, “LIZZIE: The Musical” dives headfirst into the life of one of America’s most infamous women and explores themes of betrayal, oppression, rage and liberation.

This production is completely run, including direction and vocal direction by third-year MFA musical theatre candidate Phyllis Horridge. A live four-piece rock band is led by first-year master of music candidate Noah Wilson.

“LIZZIE: The Musical” runs March 25-28 at 7:30 p.m. and March 27 at 10:30 p.m. in the Andreas Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $13 regular, and $5 for Minnesota State Mankato students. This production is recommended for mature audiences.

The box office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available online at MSUTheatre.com or over the phone at 507-389-6661.

Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka” is up next, April 9-11 & 16-19 in the Ted Paul Theatre.
