Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato will hold a ceremonial “ribbon-cutting” ceremony for its $5.49 million Maverick All-Sports Dome, located at 1910 Monks Ave. (south of the intersection of Monks Avenue and Stadium Road), at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.
The public is welcome to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. There will be free parking in orange lot 22 south from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“We’re pleased to hold Thursday’s ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Maverick All-Sports Dome with our students, the University community, representatives from the SCHEELS All-Sports Foundation and the local community,” said Richard Davenport, president of Minnesota State Mankato. “In just a short time since its opening, this facility has already been an important addition to our campus. In addition to being open to University students, we’ve held NCAA Division II soccer games at the Maverick All-Sports Dome and hosted community sports organizations as well.”
Scheduled to be among the speakers during a short program at Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony are Davenport; David Jones, Minnesota State Mankato’s vice president for student affairs & enrollment management; Anisa Omar, the University’s president of Student Government; and Todd Pfingsten, the University’s director of campus recreation.
Joining the speakers in a ribbon-cutting party photo opportunity will be University students and representatives from the SCHEELS All-Sports Foundation and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The Maverick All-Sports Dome opened Friday, Dec. 6, when it was the site for two NCAA Division II Midwest Region and Central Region women’s soccer championship matches. Weather conditions prevented those matches from being played on The Pitch, the University’s outdoor soccer field.
A public open house for the Maverick All-Sports Dome was held Monday, Dec. 9.
The Maverick All-Sports Dome is a 109,850-square-foot, air-inflated multipurpose facility. It provides space for University academic classes, Campus Recreation programs (clubs, intramurals and free play), Intercollegiate Athletics, the Maverick Machine band and other campus clubs and organizations. The facility is available for rent to local youth and adult sports organizations, area school districts and other colleges.
The SCHEELS All-Sports Foundation provided a $500,000 gift (to be paid over five years) that will help offset the facility’s annual operating costs. In exchange, the name of the facility’s synthetic turf field space is “SCHEELS Field at the Maverick All-Sports Dome.”
A public groundbreaking ceremony for the Maverick All-Sports Dome was held Tuesday, June 25.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 14,297 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which comprises 31 state institutions.
