We accept applications online or by mail. Completed applications, paper or online, must be submitted with all required materials no less than five (5) working days prior to the start of classes. Under certain circumstances the University may institute an earlier priority admission deadline.

First Year Students

  1. Request that an official high school transcript and your ACT score be sent to the Office of Admissions.
  2. If you have earned credits at a college or university, request official transcripts from those institutions to be sent to the Office of Admissions after you have completed your last course.

Transfer Students

  1. If you do not have 24 completed college level credits at the time of application, or have only attended a technical college, submit your high school transcript and ACT score.
  2. Request that official transcripts from ALL post-secondary institutions be sent directly to the Office of Admissions.

International Students

Online Application Instructions:

All applicants outside the United States are encouraged to contact your local EducationUSA Advising Center for assistance with your application. To find an EducationUSA Center near you, visit https://www.educationusa.info/centers.php.

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Pay the one-time $20 application fee after you have submitted your application and received a Star ID/TECH ID.
  3. Submit required documents as listed on the checklist.
  4. You will receive confirmation and follow-up e-mails with further instructions and information based on the receipt date of your application.

Due to an exceptionally low number of student visa approvals for Nigerian applicants, Minnesota State University, Mankato now requires that all applicants from Nigeria register with an EducationUSA Center and submit proof of registration before his or her application can be reviewed. Graduate Students

Thank you for your interest in graduate studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato. We welcome your application for admission. International applicants should read the information posted on this URL and also read the information posted at the web page designed for graduate international applicants.

Please note that applicants to the Athletic Training graduate program should apply via the Athletic Training Centralized Application System.

Applicants to the Communication Disorders program should apply using the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service.

ALL OTHER APPLICANTS -- Please submit the following materials to the College of Graduate Studies:

  • An online application. The online application can be used to apply for degree as well as non–degree study. Please be advised that most non-degree seeking applicants are not eligible for federal financial aid programs.
  • As part of the application process, you must upload transcripts from each institution you have previously attended. Students who attended Minnesota State University, Mankato or any other Minnesota State institution do not have to arrange for receipt of transcripts from these institutions.

    Applicants who were educated outside of the United States must arrange for a credential evaluation to be submitted as part of their application. The evaluation must be written by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. Test scores (if required by the degree program). Send test scores to the College of Graduate Studies and Research directly from the Educational Testing Service. Minnesota State Mankato's ETS code is 6677.
  • $40.00 non–refundable application fee.
  • Immunization Form This form is not required as part of the application but is required prior to registering.

Many programs require additional application materials. Please consult the admission requirements by program page and your academic program's Web pages for additional admission requirements. Submitted documents are not returned to the applicant.

Changes to your Application

If after applying you need to make changes to your basic information (such as phone number, address, intended major), there is no need to re-apply. Just call Admissions at 800-722-0544 and changes can be made over the phone.

Notes

Please note that your answers to the application questions regarding residency and citizenship impact the tuition rate you will be charged.

Immunization Form (Not required during admission. Applicants will be notified after admission if the form is applicable.)

If you have been admitted to the university for a previous semester but have not yet enrolled in courses, you must re-submit an application for admission in order to register for classes. You do NOT need to pay the application fee again if you have already paid it. Contact the Office of Admissions if you have questions at 507-389-1822 or admissions@mnsu.edu.

The Minnesota State University, Mankato Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available for your review. This report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for the University. The policy statements address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security. Three years' worth of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occured on-campus, or in other University affiliated locations. This report is available online. You may request a paper copy from University Security at 507-389-2111 or by emailing security@mnsu.edu.
