The Center for American Indian Affairs proudly presents Sean Sherman, The Sioux Chef, as the keynote speaker for the annual 2020 Virtual American Indian Night.

Chef Sean Sherman, Oglala Lakota of the Pine Ridge reservation, wields more than 30 years of cooking experience. In 2014, he founded The Sioux Chef as a caterer and food educator to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Sherman's 2018 book, The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen, won the James Beard medal for Best American cookbook. In 2019, Sherman was awarded the James Beard Leadership Award. He also co-founded the non-profit North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS), which strives to make indigenous foods more accessible through initiatives such as the Indigenous Food Lab restaurant and training center in Minneapolis. The Sioux Chef aims to revitalize Native American Cuisine, re-identify North American Cuisine and reclaim an important culinary culture long buried and often inaccessible.
