The Snow Sculpture is on its way back to the PA Lawn this year!

The Student Events Team will be out on the lawn stomping the snow on 2/8 from 2pm-4pm and on 2/10 from 2pm-4pm.

The Snowkitects will be on campus on Friday, 2/11 from 10am-5pm and Saturday 2/12 from 10am-5pm. On Sunday they will be making their final changes to the sculpture before it is finished.

The sculpture will be up for show until Friday the 25th! The sculpture will be complete with lights every night and will be showing our Maverick Pride! Come on out and enjoy the process of it being built and the finished product!

Artist Statement:
Our work largely focuses on interpretation of real-world objects or scenes, with hints of our own personalities injected into the piece. We strive to push the limits of snow as a medium, utilizing void space and cantilevers to highlight its strength and durability.

About the Piece:
The three pillars are a nod to the pillars of sustainability, lending itself to the idea of global togetherness with framing words tying into a common theme. The arched shapes create a sphere through the use of implied lines, featuring a bull's bust in the center. As one makes their way through the piece, they feel enclosed by the pillars while still connected to the environment around them. As college students, the campus may seem like the center of the universe, however it is still connected to a much larger world.

About the Artists:
Collectively, Kyle Slivnik and David Prom are The Snowkitects. Meeting at North Dakota State University, they started sculpting snow at the suggestion of a professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture. Their first piece was completed at the 2009 Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Since that initial project, The Snowikects have sculpted in North Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, and Canada. As frequent competitors at the Minnesota State Snowsculpting Competition, they've earned 2nd and 3rd place finishes as well as Artist's Choice awards for their projects. Individually, their art can be frequently found at the Ham Lake Competition and at the Snow Sculpting Symposium as part of the Ely Winter Festival in Ely, Minnesota.

Kyle is a 2010 graduate of North Dakota State University with degrees in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design. He lives in Grand Forks, North Dakota with his wife Stephanie and their two dogs, a pug named Jarvis and their "one-eyed wonder" Winston, an Akita-shepherd mix, as well as their cat Sassy. Kyle is a community planner for the United States Air Force at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

David is also a 2010 NDSU graduate with degrees in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design. He lives in Champlin, Minnesota with his wife Ashley and their daughter, Georgia. David works in landscape sales and design across the Twin Cities Metro area.
