Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre and Dance News Release

MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance will close the theatre and dance season with the 2022 Spring Dance Concert April 29-30 and the Student Dance Showcase on May 1 in the Ted Paul Theatre in the Earley Center for Performing Arts.

The April 29-30 performances will be a full-length concert featuring eight pieces
choreographed by both faculty and students and featuring 40 student performers. The May 1 performance is a student dance showcase, which is choreographed, designed, produced and performed by students.

The dance concert will feature work from three Andreas guest artists. Allison Doughty Marquesen’s piece "The Eye (I)" is a contemporary ballet of dynamic movement, with a wide range from percussively sharp to elegantly fluid. Mary Stark’s piece "DuckyvShincrackers" is a fast-paced tap dance that takes its cue from music and movement of the energetic 1940’s. Giselle Mejia’s piece is called "Mambo y Jumba" and is a celebration of these dance styles, set to the music of Latin jazz. The music and dance styles are a fusion that blends rhythms and percussion of Cuba and the Spanish Caribbean with European and African elements.

The 2022 Spring Dance Concert is at 7:30 p.m. on April 29 and 2 p.m. on April 30.

The Student Dance Showcase is on May 1 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 regular, $9 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $8 for Minnesota State Mankato students for the Spring Dance Concert. Tickets for the student showcase are $5 and available at the door.

The Box Office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or buy single tickets online at MSUTheatre.com. Call the Box Office at 507-389-6661.
