MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance will close the Mainstage Theatre season with “The Sound of Music.”

This classic, heartwarming tale is based on the real-life story of the von Trapp family, whose performing name was the Trapp Family Singers.

“The Sound of Music” follows Maria, a postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children. Her presence brings a new love of life and music into the home. Based on the Oscar winning film of 1965, this musical is about love, music and finding a way to survive loss of homeland to the Nazis.
