Oct. 23: Geography Colloquium Hosting Expert on Urban Ecology

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Geography is holding a fall 2020 Geography Colloquium that features events from 3-4:15 p.m. each Friday during the fall. The events are available online on Zoom and are open and free to all.

The geography colloquium, the longest-running speaker series at the University, began Sept. 18 and will run each Friday (except Nov. 27) through Dec. 4.

This week’s geography colloquium subject is “Urbanization: Challenges and Opportunities of a Rapid Geographic Transformation” which will be presented Friday, Oct. 23 from 3-4:15 p.m. by Gad Perry, professor of conservation biology at Texas Tech University.

This presentation will explore the growth in human populations and examine the consequences of that growth. Perry will also discuss his work with the U.S. Department of State as a Jefferson Science Fellow exploring how urbanization should affect U.S. foreign assistance.
