Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Performing Arts News Release

MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Performing Arts announced its 2026 Highland Summer Theatre performance schedule. The season will open with “Always...Patsy Cline,” May 27-30, and close with Disney’s “Freaky Friday,” June 10-13. All performances start at 7:30 p.m. in the Earley Center for Performing Arts.

Season tickets are available online for only $40 for both shows. Individual tickets will go on sale May 18 and are $25. Minnesota State University, Mankato students can get $5 tickets online or at the box office.

Created and originally directed by Ted Swindley and based on a true story, our first musical is a heartwarming tale that celebrates the life and music of the incomparable Patsy Cline through the story of her friendship with Louise. What begins as a chance meeting at a Texas honky-tonk turns into a bond that spans miles, letters and laughter. Packed with more than 25 of Patsy’s greatest hits, this show is a nonstop celebration of the songs that defined a generation.

The second musical of the summer is based on the novel “Freaky Friday” and the familiar Disney films. When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding. “Freaky Friday” is a hilarious, high-energy, heartfelt musical comedy that proves walking a mile in someone else’s shoes can change everything.

Highland Summer Theatre is made possible by our generous sponsors, Farrish Johnson Law Office and TRIO Student Support Services.

The Box Office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays beginning May 18 in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or buy tickets online at MSUTheatre.com.
