Minnesota State Mankato's College of Business to Hold Annual Research Day

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s College of Business faculty research award recipients will discuss their research during the annual “College of Business Faculty Research Day” on Friday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Centennial Student Union, Room 245.

College of Business Dean Brenda Flannery will open the event at 9 a.m. by welcoming guests and introducing the Drs. Narciso and Luth Tenorio College of Business Lecture Series Endowment.

At 9:10 a.m., Tenorio research guest speaker Kathy Lund Dean, who holds the Board of Trustees Distinguished Chair in Leadership & Ethics at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, will give a presentation titled “Using experiential pedagogy effectively and ethically within a business school community of practice.” (Bio information on Lund Dean is available here.)

Lund Dean’s presentation will be followed by presentations by the four Minnesota State Mankato College of Business research award recipients (abstracts available here).

At 10:15 a.m., Ishuan Li Simonson (Department of Finance) will present “The impact of Financial Literacy on Sub-Prime Mortgages.”

At 10:35 a.m., Byron Pike (Department of Accounting and Business Law) will present “The Effect of a Deliberative versus an Implemental Mindset on Auditors’ Fraud Risk Assessments.”

At 10:55 a.m., Kristin Scott (Department of Marketing and International Business) will present “The Compassionate Consumer: Values and Behaviors in the Marketplace.”

At 11:15 a.m., Leon Chen (Department of Finance) and Ferdinand Siagian (Department of Accounting and Business Law) will present “Analysts’ Target Price, Stock Performance, and Real Earnings Management.”

Each year the College of Business holds a research day, during which the college promotes, acknowledges and listens to presentations from award-winning research faculty. This opportunity is enhanced through the creation of the Drs. Narciso and Luth Tenorio College of Business Research Lecture Series Endowment.

The lecturer chosen for the Drs. Narciso and Luth Tenorio College of Business Research Lecture Series will rotate every year between the various programs and academic areas in the College of Business. The Research Committee will represent the faculty and select a visiting lecturer who is prominent in a research area important to the vision of the College of Business.

Narciso (Norge) and Luth both taught at Minnesota State University, Mankato for over 30 years, where Norge served as the chair of the Department of Business Law before retiring. In 2000, Luth Tenorio retired as the dean of the College of Nursing at Seattle University.
