April 4: Minnesota State Mankato's 2023-24 Good Thunder Reading Series Concludes with visit from Author Melissa Febos

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s 2023-2024 Good Thunder Reading Series will conclude its season Thursday, April 4 when it hosts author Melissa Febos with a series of events.

All of the events are free and open to the public.

April 4 schedule:

• 10-11 a.m. – Workshop, Memorial Library, First Floor, SW Corner.
• 3-3:50 p.m. – “Talk on Craft,” Centennial Student Union, Ostrander Auditorium. Books available for purchase.
• 7:30-8:15 p.m. – Reading with Melissa Febos and Andreas Scholar Nathan Larson, an MFA student, Centennial Student Union, Ostrander Auditorium. Books available for purchase.

About the featured author and Andreas scholar (courtesy of the Good Thunder Reading Series): Melissa Febos is the author of four books, including the nationally best-selling essay collection, “Girlhood,” which has been translated into seven languages and was a Lambda Literary Award finalist, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism and named a notable book of 2021 by NPR, Time, The Washington Post and others. Her craft book, “Body Work,” was also a national best-seller, a Los Angeles Times best-seller and an Indie Next Pick. Her fifth book, “The Dry Season,” is forthcoming from Alfred A. Knopf.

Nathan Larson is earning his MFA in creative writing, fiction from Minnesota State Mankato, and his first short story, “The Shades In-Between,” is forthcoming in The Swamp Ape Review.

Founded in 1981, the Good Thunder Reading Series brings nationally and internationally acclaimed writers from diverse backgrounds and literary traditions to Mankato, Minnesota, with the goal of promoting access to great literature, inspiring creativity and connections in our communities, and fostering lively conversations about how writers work and why writing matters.

The Good Thunder Reading Series is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The 2023-24 Good Thunder Reading Series also receives support from Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Creative Arts; College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; the Nadine B.
