Residence Hall Closing Update

Housing provided for students who need to stay

March 25, 2020 |

We are aware that Governor Walz has issued a stay-at-home order. However, as part of his order, he has declared educational activities & services as essential, which means the 37 colleges & universities of Minnesota State are exempt from this order. Students may continue to come to campus and move-out while practicing social distancing.

We recognize these are stressful times, with new information about the COVID-19 global pandemic each day.  Given the University’s transition to online and alternative instruction after an extended Spring Break, Residence Hall services are changing accordingly.

FOR MOST STUDENTS – IT’S TIME TO MOVE OUT

To support collective efforts to “flatten the curve” of community transmission of the coronavirus, it's important to minimize the number of students living in Residential Life Housing. As a result, we are asking students to return home, if possible.

Students who move out by 7 p.m. Sunday, April 5 will receive a room and meal plan refund for half of the semester (details below).

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON CAMPUS & CAN RETURN HOME

  1. Pick up a room waiver envelope at your Front Desk or Stadium Heights Office.
  2. Remove all belongings from your room.
  3. Return your room key in the waiver envelope to your Front Desk or Stadium Heights Office by 7 p.m. Sunday, April 5.

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY AT HOME & CAN RETURN TO CAMPUS TO MOVE OUT

  1. Return to campus and pick up a room waiver envelope at your Front Desk or Stadium Heights Office.
  2. Remove all belongings from your room.
  3. Return your room key in the waiver envelope to your Front Desk or Stadium Heights Office by 7 p.m. Sunday, April 5.

STUDENTS WHO CAN'T GO HOME

We understand that some students will not be able to leave at this time. If you fall into this category, complete the Housing Extension Request in the Housing & Dining Portal by Monday, March 30.

  • Approved requests will be allowed to stay until Friday, May 8 (and you may be required to move to a different room and a different residence community).
  • We expect strict compliance with University policies during this time. Disruptive behavior, including possession or use of drugs or alcohol, smoking/vaping, tampering with fire safety equipment, violations of the guest policy, etc. may result in your removal from the Residence Halls.
  • You will continue to be billed your current room and meal plan rate.  In the event that you are required to move to a new room/community, your room rate will be the lesser of your current room rate or the room rate for the new space.
