Attend a Leadership U Workshop
Leadership U hosts weekly workshops on Tuesday’s from 5-6 p.m. in CSU 245. The workshops are designed to help students develop their own leadership style and beliefs through interactive activities and discussion with peers. The sessions are facilitated by undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty or staff.
The workshop topics and content are built around The Student Leadership Competencies (SLCs) developed by Corey Seemiller, which is a competency-based model derived from analyzing standards, models, and theories of leadership as well as the outcomes of all 522 accredited academic programs in higher education (see image below). There are 8 leadership areas/categories and over 60 competencies covered.
We began covering competencies in 2017-18 and by 2019-20, we will have covered all 60 competencies through the course of the workshops. The competencies we will cover in the 2018-19 academic year are as follows:
Self-Understanding | Values | Idea Generation | Problem Solving | Goals | Follow-Through | Responding to Change | Resiliency | Empowerment | Empathy | Motivation | Supervision | Social Responsibiltiy | Service | Creating Change | Nonverbal Communication | Conflict Negotiation
