October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Celebrate and Learn with IT Solutions
As the Internet expands and changes, so does the landscape of cybersecurity. Did you know that data breaches are up 50% in comparison to last year? Or that 17.6 million people fall victim to identity theft each year? Per person, the average loss from identity theft in 2016 was over $1,000!
As a part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, IT Solutions wants to help you learn more about the importance of cybersecurity and what you can do to protect yourself so you don’t become part of the statistics. IT Solutions and our Information Security Team are committed to preventing cyberthreats and fostering a community that is well educated on the importance of cybersecurity in order to help keep everyone safe.
What is Cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity is all about being knowledgeable on and attentive to the possibilities of online cyberthreats. Being aware is only one piece of the puzzle, though! The most important part of cybersecurity is taking active and frequent precautions to protect your devices and your information from threats such as fraud, theft, viruses, malware, phishing, and more.
To help people do just this, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance created National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) back in 2004. This October, NCSAM is marking its 16th year of helping inform the public about cybersecurity.
Once again this year, IT Solutions is proud to celebrate and spread awareness of cybersecurity all month long. Keep a lookout around campus and follow us online for cybersecurity tips and facts to help you #BeCyberAware.
