What can I lean about eduroam?

Q: What is eduroam? 

A: Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. For more information regarding this service, go to eduroam’s website. Eduroam is the preferred method for the device you own to connect to the Minnesota State Mankato Wi-Fi network. Your device will automatically work with the eduroam Wi-Fi network at many other universities in the United States and abroad.


Q: How do I setup my device to use eduroam and connect to Minnesota State Mankato's Wi-Fi network?

A: Go to https://wifi.mnsu.edu from the device you wish to install eduroam. Then click the button GET STARTED - CONNECT TO EDUROAM. If you are at Minnesota State Mankato, you can connect to the "MavNet" or "MavGuest" wireless networks to get an internet connection to configure your device. You can also use a mobile data plan, or other Wi-Fi network. An internet connection is required for the installation process.
Note: If your device is an iPhone or iPad, you must use Safari to open wifi.mnsu.edu


Q: What happens when my Star ID password changes?

A: You will not need to change anything with regards to eduroam on your device. Our system generates a unique certificate for your device that securely identifies you without using your password. Once eduroam is setup on your device, it will continue working even when your Star ID password changes.


Q: Can I use eduroam without using the SecureW2 client?

A: Not at this time. If you have a device that is not supported by the SecureW2 JoinNow app, please contact the IT Solutions Center and we will do our best to get your device connected to eduroam.

 Q: I’m having trouble with eduroam working. How can I fix this?

A: Ensure that you are a current student, faculty or staff member. If you are a student, confirm your enrollment with the Registration and Academic Records Office. Employees can confirm their status with HR. If you continue to have issues, please contact the IT Solutions Center and we will do our best to get your device connected to eduroam.



Q: Can I set my device up for eduroam from outside Minnesota State Mankato, or within the Residence Communities?

A: Yes. Your device only needs to be connected to the Internet to setup eduroam on your device. However, if you are not within range of an eduroam network after installation, you may see an error message about being unable to connect. In this case, eduroam is setup on your device and will work once you are within range of an eduroam Wi-Fi network.

 
Q: Is eduroam available in the Residence Communities?

A: eduroam is available in the lobbies of the residence communities. We currently are investigating the possibility of extending this coverage to the entirety of the residence communities.  


Q: Why do I have to connect to MavGuest or MavNet to configure eduroam?

A: An internet connection is required for the installation process. You may use any Wi-Fi internet connection, or mobile data.

 Q: I'm using Android. Can I uninstall the SecureW2 JoinNow app after eduroam is installed on my device?

A: Removing the JoinNow app from your Android device will also remove the eduroam Wi-Fi settings that were installed on your device.
