“What’s next?” was the first question I asked when I was done with my visa appointment. I felt like I was supposed to do something, but then I did not know what that “something” was.

You are accepted to Minnesota State University, Mankato, and got your visa. Tinbit.jpgYou will be moving to a new place named Mankato in Minnesota in few months. But then, what can you possibly do within that few months that could make a huge difference in your college years that are about to come? “What’s next?” was the first question I asked when I was done with my visa appointment. I felt like I was supposed to do something, but then I did not know what that “something” was.

You could start with organizing your documents now so that you have them all. Make sure you have them in a secure place and in a folder where it is easily accessible. Then, handle things regarding your housing. Especially if you have decided to live off-campus, you must at least have an idea of where you would like to stay and everything you prefer, such as roommates and financial choices. When thinking of off-campus housing, considering the day of your arrival in relation to the move-in date of the apartment. It's very important that you know if there will be any in-between time that you need to find other accommodations for. If it is possible, travel earlier so that you can have time to settle in and get used to the environment.

After getting to Mankato, Minnesota, be aware of what you need versus what you want, because it could be so easy to get carried away. As a student, there are things we are supposed to have; we must give more emphasis on those materials first. A good way to keep track of things you need would be making a shopping list of essential things you would need for school and following that. Additionally, you could go around exploring and learn what the town has to offer. Even though Mankato is a small town, there is always a place where you could spend your free time. Going to places will also help you make friends and help you create a social circle.

Generally, moving to a new place to start a new chapter of your life might be a stressful thought. But, if you are doing something and not procrastinating activities, know that you are moving forward even if it is a slow process. Overthinking matters is common, but do not let the overwhelming thoughts keep you from taking action. The decisions you make might be major but are not a matter of life and death.
