MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance will open “Arsenic and Old Lace” on Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Andreas Theatre at the Early Center for the Performing Arts.

This classic farcical black comedy tells the story of the Brewster family, which includes two aunts who have taken to murdering old men with wine laced with arsenic and “just a pinch” of cyanide, a brother who thinks he is Theodore Roosevelt, a murderous brother, and Mortimer, who must decide if he will follow through on his promise to marry Elaine Harper, who lives next door.

Regarding a comedy about death, Director Heather Hamilton says, “I understand that mocking what we fear is a powerful survival tool, and that this fare, while seriously silly, gives us that opportunity.”

“Arsenic and Old Lace” runs Oct. 10-13 and 16-20 at 7:30 p.m. and October 13, 19 and 20 at 2 p.m. in the Andreas Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Tickets are $16 regular, $14 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $11 for Minnesota State Mankato students.

The Box Office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or buy single tickets online at MSUTheatre.com. Call the Box Office at 507-389-6661.
